Annual Charity Awards 2022: The results are in!
It’s good to give back. Each year we donate a total of £4,000 to four charities, as voted for by PG Mutual policyholders and the wider public. Here are the results from our 2022 vote, with some comments from the winning charities.
Here’s a quick explainer
PG Mutual has always supported many charitable causes, from food banks to mental health support. But with so many invaluable charities out there, deciding who to donate to each year is, frankly, a difficult task.
To make those choices more democratic, we launched our Annual Charity Awards. First, we shortlist a number of charities whose cause has really resonated with us. Then we give PG Mutual policyholders and the wider public the chance to vote on the charities we donate to.
Once voting closes, the four charities with the highest number of votes each receive £1,000.
The results of our 2022 award
They say charity begins at home. That’s especially true for the people who have been getting online and voting since our 2022 award opened in March. A big thank you to everyone who voted and shared details of our award on social media.
And now for the winners.
The four charities with the highest number of votes were:
The Trussell Trust
Ruth Strauss Foundation
Pharmacist Support
Vetlife
Here’s a few words from each of the winners.
Charity #1: The Trussell Trust
“This is fantastic news! Thank you so much! As you already know, your support has never been more vital to us. Between 1st April 2021 and 31st March 2022, food banks in the Trussell Trust’s UK-wide network distributed over 2.1 million emergency food parcels to people in crisis. This is an increase of 14% compared to the same period in 2019/2020. 832,000 of these parcels went to children.
“Compared to this time five years ago, need for food banks in our network has increased by 81%. That’s why we’re incredibly thankful that you are standing alongside us, food banks and people in financial crisis. On behalf of all the team, thank you so much for your support.”
– Jenny Heritage, Community and Events Engagement Assistant
Charity #2: Ruth Strauss Foundation
“The Ruth Strauss Foundation are delighted to have been chosen as one of the four charities to receive a donation through the PG Mutual Annual Charity Awards. Families are at the heart of everything we do and this kind donation from will help us to continue to provide emotional support to families to help them prepare for the death of a parent.”
– Alex Cullen, Head of Fundraising
Charity #3: Pharmacist Support
“This is fantastic news, thank you! As an independent charity reliant on donations such as these, from individuals and organisations across the profession, your support really does make a huge difference.”
– Kate Westbrook, Marketing & Communications Manager
Charity #4: Vetlife
“A huge thank you to PG Mutual members for nominating Vetlife as one of your chosen charities for 2022. Demand for Vetlife services continues to be very high with over 7,000 contacts in the last two years. Your generous donation will help us to maintain our three services and make a real difference to those in the veterinary community who may find themselves in need of our support.”
– Emma Helbert, Donor Relations Manager
We’re supporting the Queen’s Green Canopy too!
This year we are also supporting the fine work of the Queen’s Green Canopy, who are planting one million trees to mark the impending Platinum Jubilee.
“You very kindly have donated a very generous amount to the QGC to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee by planting trees. We have established an initiative that has been responsible for the planting of one million trees. Your donation will help that initiative, and I am deeply grateful.”
– Sir Nicholas Bacon, Chairman
